Espace 1997 Mk3 radio [message #19613] Fri, 12 May 2006 13:20 Zum nächsten Beitrag gehen

Hi

Does anybody know if the factory fitted radio on the 1997 - 1998 Espace 3.0 V6 has an Aux connector or how to get to it? I have a PDA which I use for Sat Nav as well as MP3s and I would like to connect it through the radio.

Thanks

Hi,

afaik there is no direct possibility to connect an mp3-player to the build-in auditorium.

Hi Giles,
first of all: Welcome among the Espace-friends!

Our english boards are still quiet, but as you see we germans recognize postings here and try to answer the questions as well as we can.

To your question: I'm not sure if there haven't been different factory fitted radios at that time. Do you have a 6 CD changer?
Then it's propably a Panasonic System, that was sold as 'Radiosat Auditorium 4x15W' in Germany at least in 1998 (and I don't think they changed that in the first year of JE).

If you have this (the main unit is placed below the passenger seat) then (according to Andreas website, see links below the picture) you have an AUX connector!

http://je.espace-freunde.de/jeinfo/espace98/2003.01.06.audio.ausbau/Bild6.jpg

The whole system (and how to unmount it) is documentated on Andreas website (in german language):
http://je.espace-freunde.de/jeinfo/espace98/2002.12.28.audio /inhalt.html
http://je.espace-freunde.de/jeinfo/espace98/2003.01.06.audio .ausbau/inhalt.html

If you want to access the main unit under the passenger seat be careful with the cables there - one of them is the airbag connector!

Hope this helps you in any way.

Best regards
Uli

A '97/'98 JE has no airbags (sidebags) in the front seats. When there is a "dangerous" connection, it is for the seat belt tensioners.

I think the Aux-Connector is only Mono, so its not quite the thing i would use for an MP3-Player.

There were some experiences with a box between the antenna cable which is modulating the sound to a specific frequency.

Hi Giles!

I also doubt the possibility to connect your PDA directly to the Auditorium. And faster than I could have done, Arne published the address to a solution that works perfectly well! The only disadvantage is, that you can't use the Auditorium-related Radio or CD-Changer and the FM-Modulator at the same time. Therefor the remote control at the steering wheel is always usable.

Edit:
Maybe that link serves you better:

Besides it is not recommendable to use the wireless versions of such modulators/transmiters. The sound is quite bad and the use illegal in Germany!

Thanks for all the Info. It looks like the connecter directly into the radio is probably best ... It will give me stereo (instead of Mono on the AUX connector). Is teh Audial Connector also under the passenger seat ? (I may have missed it in my quick scan of the pictures)

Thanks Again

Giles

Hmm ... looking at the photo of the radio (the very bottom picture, there seems to be a connection marked "Tape". My version only has the 6 cd changer and no tape. perhaps I could use that connection ...

Any thoughts?

Hi Giles!

The Tape connection can only be used with the original Tape! The Problem is that there is a pin at the connection that transfers a special signal from the original Tape, which lets the auditorium allow to use the connection. Otherwise it's hard to bring a signal in.
You can try to get an original Tape with the matching connection and use the adaptercassette, which Marco described before.
....or with nearly the same effort the FM-Modulator.

Bye
Tobias

Hi Giles!

Yes, you can take the 12V from the radio power connector.
Black = - (Ground)
Red = +
(White = Remote+)
Take it from the right connector!

The Tape/Aux input has a narrow frequency range aswell, it is however possible to rebuild it to very good quality for MP3 use, it is a man in this link that makes cards to modify the player for this use:
